Compassion Ministry

The Compassion Ministry's Mission

Compassion exists to help people connect and serve both within the church and in the Greater Lansing community. While we regularly schedule projects you can participate in independently, we’re also ready and willing to help you and your family, Life Group, or friends from the office get plugged in and involved. Let us know if you’re interested in any of the areas below, and we’ll get you details on upcoming scheduled projects, or find a specific project just for you or your group.

Compassion Contacts & Their Focus Areas

Connecting With Compassion

The Compassion Ministry is essentially a virtual team of people who receive updates on both needs within Riv and projects we support in the community. To join our team, just sign-up for one of the following:

  • Facebook Group:
Join our “Compassion @ Riv” group. Updates are sent via Facebook messages.
  • Facebook Page:
Like our “Compassion @ Riv” page. Updates appear in your Facebook news feed. (This is only recommended if you are regularly on Facebook.)
  • RSS Feed:
Sign-up to receive updates via RSS feed here.
  • Email List:
Request email updates by emailing Compassion@RivChurch.com.
  • Meetings:
We meet at 6:45 pm the first Thursday of every month in the Chapel at Riv’s Holt Venue. (While a large portion of the connections within Compassion are made online, we do offer monthly meetings as a way to get to know others who are interested in serving in person. We make it a family affair by providing a kids’ room staffed by junior volunteers. Meetings are not a requirement, but do provide a great forum for people to share ideas for future projects and pray for our ministry. We’d love to have you to join us as often as you would like.)

Help needed during the weekend services....

Posted on Friday, Sep 3, 2010

In the month of September we will be hosting a drive for the Lansing Area AIDS Network.

We would like to have two people for each service who are able to sit at the table, hand out fliers on the information we are collecting and take items that people are collecting. Those interested would arrive 15 minutes before the service begins staying until the music begins and would come out of the service at the end when the music starts staying 15 minutes after the service ends. It is a great way to meet people and serve at the same time.

If you are interested in serving please contact bethchelman@yahoo.com.

Thank you to everyone who donated a back pack or volunteered at Foster Park this summer!

It was hard to say good bye to the kids tonight, but we are looking forward to continuing the relationships we built through the Mentor Program and our friendship with Barefoot Christian Church.
